Isosorbide mononitrate is a medication used for heart-related chest pain (angina), heart failure, and esophageal spasms. It works by dilating (widening) blood vessels, making it easier for blood to flow through them and easier for the heart to pump. It can be used both to treat and to prevent heart-related chest pain, however, Isosorbide mononitrate will not treat an angina attack that has already begun.
Common side effects include headache, low blood pressure with standing, blurry vision, and skin flushing. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breast-feeding for using this medicine.
