Levofloxacin is an antibiotic medication used to treat a number of bacterial infections including acute bacterial sinusitis, pneumonia, H. pylori (in combination with other medications), urinary tract infections, chronic prostatitis, and some types of gastroenteritis. Levaquin belongs to a class of drugs called Fluoroquinolones. Along with other antibiotics it may be used to treat tuberculosis, meningitis, or pelvic inflammatory disease. Use is generally recommended only when other options are not available. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections. It will not work for viral infections (such as common cold, flu). Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can cause it to not work for future infections.
Common side effects include nausea (feeling sick), diarrhea, and trouble sleeping.
Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding for using this medicine.
