Nystatin is an antifungal medicine, which means it is used to treat or prevent infections caused by a fungus (or yeast). Nystatin kills the fungus and gets rid of the infection by making holes in the cell membrane of the fungus which causes the contents to leak out. This kills the fungus and treats the infection. It can also be used to stop you from getting an infection.
Nystatin can be used to treat Candida infections of the skin including diaper rash, thrush, esophageal candidiasis, and vaginal yeast infections. It may also be used to prevent candidiasis in those who are at high risk.
It’s important not to eat or drink for 30 minutes after taking the liquid.
Some of the common side effects include nausea (feeling sick) and diarrhea. It’s usually safe to take nystatin while you’re pregnant or trying for a baby. It’s usually safe to take nystatin liquid while you’re breastfeeding.
